Rachel Carson I.S. 237 Magnet School for the Arts strives to achieve academic excellence by integrating music, visual arts, theater and dance across the curriculum. We excite and engage students by creating a unique program of study which uses the arts to deepen student understanding of specific content while promoting an atmosphere of creativity, inquiry and intellectual independence. Through a customized curriculum which stresses arts integration, NYS Learning Standards, cooperative learning, differentiated instruction, and a project-based approach to curriculum, students are exposed to a wide variety of arts activities, residencies, after school programs, and electives.
Some of these specialized activities include: painting, drawing, graphic design, photography, three dimensional art, playwriting, play production, musical theater, ballroom dance, digital music, guitar, keyboards, world drumming, band, strings, chorus, and more. Our school also has a strong commitment to integrating technology into all aspects of the curriculum. Teachers have access to SMART Board technology, laptops, and engage students in a variety of project-based activities where either Mac or Dell computers are utilized. Through class projects and residencies, students use digital cameras, video cameras, software such as GarageBand and Photoshop, and create iMovies, multimedia productions, podcasts, and PowerPoint presentations.
Overall, Rachel Carson I.S. 237 Magnet School for the Arts is a nurturing community concerned with the academic, social, and emotional needs of all of our students. Our faculty, staff, and administration are always there for parents and students and are 100% committed to making a positive difference in the lives of each member of our community. |
