Rachel Carson I.S. 237 Magnet School for the Arts provides students with a wide array of after school, evening, and Saturday programs that supplement and expand on our already robust fine arts and academics. After school programs are open to all students and some evening courses are offered to parents and community members as well.

OST After-School Program

Through funding provided by Queens Child Guidance Center, the OST After School Program provides students with the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of academic, social, recreational, and arts related classes. The OST Program runs Mondays through Fridays from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and also runs programs during the day on certain school holidays such as Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, Professional Development Days, etc.

The After-School Arts Enrichment Program

Through funding from our Federal Magnet School Grant, students have the opportunity to take part in after school arts classes that supplement and extend our in-school arts initiatives. By means of this program, a variety of courses are offered after school Mondays through Fridays from 3:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m.. Some of these courses include: Guitar, Keyboards, World Drumming, Select Chorus, Jazz Band, Play Production, Three Dimensional Art, Drawing, and String Ensemble.

The Rachel Carson Evening Center

The Rachel Carson Evening Center is a community outreach and parental involvement program that provides adult education, ELL and literacy courses to community members, while at the same time offers a wide selection of recreational programs for students. Some of the most popular recreational activities include basketball and table tennis.

The 21st Century Grant Program

This year Rachel Carson received a prestigious 21st Century Grant which provides funds for a wide range of after school and evening programs. These classes run Mondays through Thursdays after school from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and in the evenings from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.. These courses include Public Speaking, Health and Fitness, Digital Music, a Community Outreach/Environmental Club, and a Teen Entrepreneurship/Career Studies Club.

In addition to the above classes, Rachel Carson I.S. 237 Magnet School for the Arts provides a number of after school academic enrichment and intervention programs. There are ELA, ELL, and Math classes during the week from 3:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m., and ELL and SES services on Saturdays .
